My father was Arthur Cappelen he was in vaudiville in the theatre and I know was a member of the Bainbridge Players in the Twin cities area of Minnesota. He died in 1932, I was an infant. He was the son of the well known F.W. CAppelen, the bridge builder and engineer for the city of Minneapolis. Periodically I search the Cappelen name and found this site. Wonder if you might have any information about him. Thanks Joan C.
The only information I have is from the handfull of found photographs posted here, labeled ‘Cappelen, 240 Columbia St. Brooklyn’. It looks like the images were taken circa 1880-1900. I cannot tell if the motif on the cards (that appears between the name and the address) is a decorative flourish or possibly a pair of initials. C F maybe or C T ?
My father, brother, and grandfather are all named Arthur Cappelen. My grandfather passed away a little over a year ago and I’d really like to learn more about his life. I find it very interesting the person who posted before me is also related to an Arthur Cappelen and area is the midwest. My grandfather was in the construction and painting business for many many years in South Florida. My father and brother are also in the business. My grandfather was one of 10 Children and there is a group of my grandfathers brothers who do barbershop quartets (I learned and heard them at the funeral). I am wondering if there is any connection.
Unfortunately I don’t have any additional information at this time about photographer Cappelen, or the Cappelen family in Brooklyn. If I find out any additional details I will certainly post them.
I have a photograph of my norwegian grandmother and her parents, taken by M. Nelson, 240 Columbia street Brooklyn NY. This photo is from July 21th 1907. Maybe the sucessor of Cappelen?
